We are once again organizing for the Arnold Expo, the world’s largest multisport exposition. This year’s event will be held March 3, 4 & 5. We need your help at the event and in recruiting. Check out the main web site arnoldsportsfestival.com. The medical team web page is arnoldexpo.com/medical and signup is the top right button. The team really needs scouts. Our team has saved lives and prevented serious injuries from becoming lethal. We are a dynamic team with over 17 years of experience. The Boy Scouts have been a valuable asset to the Arnold Medical Team and we hope to have volunteer scouts all three days to continue the legacy of those who have come before you.
In 2016 we covered 19,000 athletes in 54 events that came from 80 countries. This year we are at 7 sites in the city, covering 70 events and expanding our teams from 26 to 30 simultaneous medical teams at peak times. 83 Boy Scouts helped us during the 3 day event last year.
Scouts help us by acquiring and distributing ice/coolers to events at 7AM, guide medical volunteers to event sites within the complex, assist in EMS transfers from events, run resupplies for medical bags to events, and perform a dozen other tasks during the Arnold and have done so for the past 18 years. Troop 843 has always been the backbone of the scouting support team with 428 as a close second and we need both scouts and adult scouters.
We only accept 1st class scouts and above unless a parent is present at the Arnold. All scouts must comply with scouting rules which includes the buddy system. All scouts must be in Class A uniforms.
SIGN UP EARLY! This year we will have slightly fewer events at the convention center and will decrease the number of scouts allowed to sign up to volunteer. For now, we have decided to accept the first 20 scouts that sign up for any given time period. Many scouts submit Alternate Learning Experience forms (ALE) to their schools to allow them to volunteer on that Friday (March 3). Depending on the spread of hours signed up we may expand the number allowed later.
We are also setting a definite morning start time of 6:45 AM so if you sign up for the morning, you will need to be on site at that time.
We will also need at least four very senior scouts (Eagles?) all three days at the Ohio Expo Center (“fairgrounds”). Last year we had four scouts there and that site has expanded for 2017. These senior scouts are not counted in the 20 scout limit for the convention center.
Sign up early to get your spot – remember, only 20 scouts will be allowed at any given time.
