New Scout Field Days – April 12-14

Scouts are now preparing for our New Scout Field Days campout on April 12th – 14th.  Each Patrol will be assigned a Skill Station at an upcoming PLC meeting.  During the upcoming Troop meetings, each patrol will need to finish up making their plans for New Scout Field Day.

These plans will include the following:

1.       Patrols need to have their New Scout Field Day Skill Stations plans firmed up and ready to go.

2.       Patrols need to plan their meals to include their New Scout guests for Lunch and Dinner on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday.

The new scouts that have joined this year will arrive on Saturday morning.  Check-in will be at 9:00 a.m. We will be camping this year at the Camp Lazarus West Activity Field.  The entrance to the West Activity Field is along Chapman Road, not the main entrance off of US23.  Please do not show up at the main entrance, as there will be no one there to meet you!

All other scouts that will be attending will arrive Friday night. Plan to arrive at 6:00 p.m. to start setting up camp.

We have lots of activities scheduled for the Scouts related to their rank requirements. The new scouts will learn about cooking with our existing patrols for meals.  The current patrols need to plan for breakfast and lunch dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.  The patrols will need to plan on having around 2-3 of the new scouts as their guests for lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.  There will be a cooking competition for Saturday’s Dinner. The winning Patrol will be invited to dine with the ASM’s (who eat VERY well) at a future campout.

Cost for the New Scout Field Day camp out will be $10.00 for all Scouts.

 A few Quick Notes:

1.       Please check the Email List (Google Group) for the permission form.

2.       All new Scout parents need to make sure their Scout’s medical form (Parts A & B) and BSA transfer application are filled out and on file and dues paid in order to attend campouts.  Medical forms can be downloaded from http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_ABC.pdf

We will be up at 7AM and Scouts may be picked up between 7:30 – 8 AM.  This is a great activity for new Scouts and siblings are welcome if a parent or guardian attends.  Adults will be instructed in belaying.

Important:   Release forms must be completed for everyone who climbs.  This can be completed online at the Vertical Adventures website.

Arnold Sports Festival Medical Team

It is that time of year again.  The Arnold Sports Festival is Feb. 28, March 1, 2, & 3. Scouts interested in volunteering with the Arnold Medical Team need to sign up now.  Registration for scouts will close rapidly due to overwhelming demand so don’t wait!

We are the medical team for the Arnold Sports Festival – the world’s largest multisport athletic contest – and we provide mat side first aid for nearly 23,000 athletes from 85 countries competing in over 74 events.  We run 40 medical teams simultaneously from two coordinated but independent command centers plus some remote sites.  It has unified communications via the Amateur Radio Operators (Hams).  We treat just shy of 500 injuries in three days so we run it as mass casualty incident command.

Scouts serve various team support functions and have been working with us for 20 years with over 1000 scouts working the Arnold across this time span.

Signup information can be found in the Google Group, so check your email or go to groups.google.com to find the forms.

They only take 1st class and above unless you have a parent working with the medical team as a scouter.  Class A uniforms are required.

A “walkthrough” is at the Greater Columbus Convention Center Sunday Feb. 24th from noon to 3pm to teach everyone the tunnel system and review policies.  Scouts are asked to attend and Class A’s are required.

2019 Bushwack **Rescheduled**

Good News!!  Our 2019 Buchwhack Campout has been rescheduled for March 29th to March 31st.  We had hoped to do it a little earlier, but between our schedule and the camps schedule, this was our first opportunity.

I realize that this is during spring break for some of you, but we did not want to push it out any further.

You never know, the way the weather had been, we could have snow… maybe.  As a matter of fact, we did have a blizzard on April 2, 2016 and the the cow “Jersey” blew off the sign at Young’s Dairy.  This weekend is now called “Down Goes Jersey Weekend” and their milkshakes are on sale… so it all worked out…;-)

If you still plan to come, no action is needed.  If you wish to cancel, please let me know by February 25, 2019 and your payment will be deposited in your scout account.  If you couldn’t make it on the original date, but would like to attend now, please let me know by February 25, 2019. This is our next regular troop meeting.
